6 Super Healthy Smoothie Recipes

Smoothies have earned something of a bad reputation over the years, thanks to their position as a sugar-laden drink brimming with ice-cream and natural sugars. However, while the smoothies you purchase at your grocery store might not be the best for you, that doesn't mean you can't make a fantastic blend at home that's sure to give your immune system, and your body the boost it needs.

Smoothies, when made right, can be a great way to get extra vitamins and minerals into your body. You can load your smoothie up with antioxidants to improve your immune system, or protein to improve your muscle-building power. You can even make smoothies that will help you lose weight. Here are just some of my favorite smoothie recipes, and why they're good for you!

1.    The Blueberry Blitz

When it comes to foods that are rich in minerals, vitamins, and free-radical-fighting anti-oxidants, you can't get much better than the humble blueberry. Blueberries are excellent for improving your immune system power and establishing better brain function. With this rich, smooth blueberry smoothie, you can enjoy a healthy dose of antioxidants and protein at the same time. Feel free to add some extra fruits of your choice to the mix.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of ice
  • 1 cup of plain yogurt
  • 1 cup of blueberries
  • 1 quarter of a cup of milk
  • Some extra fruit (your choice)

2.    The Papaya Strawberry Blend

Another delicious fruit that's high in antioxidants, and fiber, papaya is an incredibly nutritious food, and perfect for smoothie making. When you blend it with coconut kefir, you can rest assured that you'll end up with a stronger immune system, and a more powerful gut too. Add a little whey protein to the mix to keep your metabolism burning, and you'll be well on your way towards a great morning. Add some spinach and pineapple for an extra healthy kick.

Ingredients:

  • 1 half a cup of strawberries
  • 1 cup of papaya
  • 1 cup of coconut kefir
  • 1 scoop of protein powder
  • 1 cup of ice
  • Spinach and pineapple (optional)
